Darren Latoski (1969 - 2013)

On September 9, 2013, WesternOne announced the passing of founder, director and Chief Executive Officer, Darren Latoski. Darren fought a valiant battle with cancer and was active in his role with WesternOne until his death. He was one of Canada’s most successful young entrepreneurs and will be deeply missed by family, friends and colleagues alike.

Mr. Blake began his role as CEO of WesternOne Inc. on September 1, 2014. Prior to joining WesternOne Inc., Mr. Blake served as the CEO of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the world’s largest auctioneer of heavy equipment and trucks, where he held several key positions including CFO and director. Mr. Blake is involved in several community organizations, including West Point Grey Academy and Junior Achievement of BC, and previously has served on both BCIT and British Columbia Women’s Hospital foundation boards. He has also served as the co-chair and remains a member of the Cabinet for the Business Laureates of British Columbia Hall of Fame Gala. Mr. Blake received his Diploma of Technology at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Alberta. Mr. Blake is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (British Columbia), and was honoured with a fellowship by the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (formerly Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia), for contributions to the community and service to the profession. Mr. Blake also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from BCIT in 2012.

Mr. Yam joined WesternOne Inc. on October 1, 2007. From 2003 to 2007, Mr. Yam was Director of Financial Planning of Intrawest ULC (formerly Intrawest Corp.). Mr. Yam was primarily responsible for the business planning and financial analysis functions of the company’s real estate division, and was instrumental in the company’s strategic review process in 2006 which later led to the divestiture of the company. From 1998 to 2003, Mr. Yam worked in the Business Assurance and Financial Advisory Services groups of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Vancouver.  His experience included working with public companies and private businesses to perform acquisition, divestiture, refinancing, forensic and litigation support, and audit-related services. Mr. Yam has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. Mr. Yam is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (British Columbia) and US Certified Public Accountant (Illinois).  In 2013 Mr. Yam was inducted into Business in Vancouver’s Forty Under 40 in recognition of his professional achievements.

Mr. Shorten joined WesternOne on February 19, 2008 in conjunction with WesternOne’s acquisition of Deerfoot Equipment Rentals located in Calgary, Alberta. Mr. Shorten has extensive experience in equipment rental, manufacturing, and product design and development.  From 2003 to 2008, he was the President and co-owner of Deerfoot Equipment Rentals Ltd., a southern Alberta based equipment rental business. From 1998 to 2003, Mr. Shorten was Senior Vice President of Strategy with VentureWorks Inc., an Alberta based venture capital firm, and was the principal of Mainsheet Management Inc., a management and strategy consulting firm.  Prior to 1998, Mr. Shorten was Vice President of Operations with Amptech Corporation, a contract manufacturer with operations in Calgary and Mexico, and was Director of Product Design with Novatel Communications Inc.  Mr. Shorten has an MBA from the University of Calgary and is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art with a major in Industrial Design, receiving the Lieutenant Governor General’s award.

Mr. King is President of King Pacific Capital Corporation, a private equity firm involved in corporate and real estate investment and finance.  Mr. King is also a principal of Westbridge Finance Inc., a full-service commercial mortgage brokerage company.  Mr. King is a trustee of Pure Industrial Real Estate Trust (“PIRET”), a publicly-listed real estate investment trust that that acquires, owns and operates a diversified portfolio of income-producing industrial properties in major markets across Canada and the United States. Mr King is also a director of the governing general partner of Pure Multi-Family REIT LP (“Pure Multi-Family”) which owns and operates a portfolio of high quality apartment communities in the US sunbelt growth markets. Mr. King is a director of Wall Financial Corporation, a real estate investment and development company.  Mr. King is also a director of the general partner and/or corporate trustee of each of the limited partnerships and real estate investment trusts comprising the Sunstone Funds (as defined herein) which has acquired, redeveloped and drove asset management of over $800 million in retail, industrial, residential and hotel properties in Canada and the US.  Mr. King earned his MBA from Dalhousie University in 1992 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia in 1989. He graduated from the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program in November of 2015 and received the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors in February 2016. Mr. Scott is currently a financial consultant to corporations specializing in initial public offerings, IFRS implementation, corporate reorganizations and syndicated financings. Mr. Scott was the Chief Financial Officer of First Majestic Silver Corp. and First Silver Reserve Inc. from 2006 to 2007.  Prior to joining First Majestic, Mr. Scott was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Coast Wholesale Appliances Income Fund and its predecessor from 2003 to 2005 and was instrumental in its 2005 initial public offering. In addition, Mr. Scott is a partner with FinancExec Associates, working primarily in the roles of director and Chief Financial Officer for a number of large to medium-sized public and private companies. Mr. Scott has served as a director and treasurer on a number of not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Scott is currently a director of the governing general partner of Pure Multi-Family and a trustee of PIRET, and Chairman of the audit committee of Pure Multi-Family and PIRET.  Mr. Scott has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with Distinction from the University of Alberta, and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta. Mr. Day was appointed to the Corporation’s board of directors on September 4, 2013. Mr. Day is a senior strategic advisor for McMillan LLP and serves on numerous boards as a director or advisor, including Telus, the Johns Hopkins University Atlantic Basin Policy Institute, RCI Capital, Baylin Technologies, AWZ Ventures, the International Federation of Christians and Jews, the Canada-India Business Council, the Canada-China Business Council, and the Council on Jewish and Israel affairs. Mr. Day is also a Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Pacific Foundation and is a well-known international speaker and a regular national television commentator. He has also served as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Rotary Club. From 1986 to 2000, Mr. Day represented Red Deer North in the Alberta Legislature, where he served in the Progressive Conservative Government in a variety of senior roles, including Chief Whip, Government House Leader, Minister of Labour and Minister of Social Services. From 1997 to 2000 he was Provincial Treasurer (Minister of Finance) and Acting Premier. In 2000 Mr. Day won the leadership of the Canadian Alliance and became Leader of Canada’s Official Opposition. In 2002, Stockwell Day was appointed Foreign Affairs critic, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, as well as Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights.
